Apps are becoming an increasingly popular way of operating gadgets such as TVs, lights and toys. Crossing the road could soon also become app operated. An app called Neatebox allows you to press the button of a pedestrian crossing remotely!
Whilst this may sound like a step too far, the idea behind the app is to make it easier for disabled and visually impaired users to cross the road. The Neatebox crossings are believed to benefit pedestrians with impairments who may find it hard to press the crossing control box. The app uses Bluetooth technology to send a signal to any crossing point with 5km of your location. The first of these crossings has been implemented in Edinburgh, with the app even including historic stories of the Royal Mile.
Could this be the future of crossing the road? If you’re exploring Edinburgh let us know your thoughts on the app by using #PBAtravel.
