Take a Wander this Walktober

October’s moderate temperatures and autumnal sights make it a perfect month for walking. Whilst some are hanging up their walking boots after the warm summer weather, walking into autumn is important to keep serotonin levels up, helping to prevent autumn and winter blues. Why not get involved in Walktober and see if you can keep walking for the month.

But Walktober is not just for weekends! Many schools around the UK are signing up to Walktober to encourage children, and their parents, to walk to school through the month. Walking to school is a great way to incorporate some exercise into your daily routine, working towards your child’s 60 minutes of daily physical activity recommended by the NHS.

Hampshire Students can enter My Journey competition to be in with the chance of winning vouchers for Hampshire attractions. Just create a “Walktober Wellies” design at home – by using a paper outline provided by My Journey, or decorating a pair of wellies and emailing a photo. For more information about the competition and how else My Journey is contributing to Walktober, visit https://myjourneyhampshire.com/walktober.

“Even if it’s not possible to leave the car at home for the entire school run, ‘Park and Stride’ sites may be available at schools, and turning off idling engines while waiting can make a positive difference too”
