This page is designed especially for you, the residents of the Pennylands development. It will contain up to date information on travel options and your local area, including:
- Local Shops and centres
- Bus stops/timetables/fares
- Train station/timetables
- Cycle routes, shops
- Events on in your local area
Most of the information is provided through direct links to other websites, this ensures that the information displayed is up to date.
Your home is ideally located to the north of Winchcombe, within easy reach of a number of a number of different amenities. These include a Medical Centre directly to the south of the site, a Budgens on Greet Road, a Co-op on North Street, a Pharmacy on Gretton Road as well as a number of cafés and shops in and around the centre of the village. Winchcombe is also home to a number of pubs and restaurants, giving plenty of options for things to do on any day of the week. These facilities are highlighted within the Accessibility Map below. The closest bus stop to the site can be found directly to the south of the development entrance, by Winchcombe Medical Centre. This stop has a number of services running from it, with direct routes to Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Bishops Cleeve amongst others. Services from this stop are run by Marchants Coaches, and full up to date timetables can be found on their website here.
Gloucestershire County Council have developed an app to allow for more accurate bus tracking. The app has been designed to assist anyone who might need to use it. Moreover, the app allows you to pinpoint the exact location of live live bus information. You are also able to find your nearest 12 bus stops (within 1000m radiius), providing audible bus arrival and departure. There are 3 train stations located nearby to Winchcombe, with varying services available at each one. Cheltenham Spa Railway Station (9 miles) provides services to Birmingham and Bristol, Honeybourne Railway Station (15 miles) provides services to Moreton-in-Marsh, Oxford, Reading and London and Ashcroft for Tewkesbury Railway Station (10 miles) provides direct services to Birmingham and Worcester. There are some great opportunities for cyclists in the Winchcombe area, with the Cotswolds providing the perfect backdrop for a cycle ride – either on or off road! The development is the perfect distance away for a short cycle ride into the town centre. Alternatively, Winchcombe Cycling Club offers the support for new or established riders to join their ranks and offer a number of different ride difficulties to accommodate any potential members. They offer junior membership as well as slots for guests, if you want to experience a ride before joining in full. Winchcombe Cycling Club also offer Mountain Bike Rides if you prefer the off road trails. Don’t worry, your Travel Plan Coordinators have you covered again! Plan your trip before you leave by looking at some of these useful links that inform you of any accidents, roadworks or traffic jams that will affect your journey.
Via Michelin will show you real time traffic flow in Winchcombe – handy for when you are about to pop out and want to avoid any traffic!
The AA will show you incidents that have occurred within the local area. Helpful for letting you know which routes to avoid before you set off on your journey!
Gloucestershire County Council have a handy website that offers useful information for those wishing to use sustainable forms of transport, details of which can be found here. When using public transport, there are handy tools to plan your journey, find your nearest bus stop as well as accessing maps of the bus services that run in and around Gloucestershire. Furthermore, there is lots of useful information surrounding Park and Rides, in Gloucester there is the Waterwells Park and Ride, while in Cheltenham there are services that allow you to reach the hospital, the racecourse and the town centre.
What’s on in Winchcombe?
There are some great activities in and around Winchcombe to take part in, and these are applicable to people of all ages and interests. The Winchcombe Town directory website has an activities page which highlights what is going on in the local area, and how to get involved. The Cotswolds information website also is a great resource to check what is occurring in the region, and is constantly updated with an interesting list of things to do. It’s safe to say, the last year has been like no other and as we see people, businesses and the economy recover, it will undoubtedly be a time we discover a new ‘normal’. Whether that is finding yourselves working from home, taking the children bank to school or finding new ways to travel we are all in it together.
The impact on personal travel behaviour has been great and as we hopefully move towards some semblance of normality, we are looking to find out how your travel patterns might change. Please always refer to the most up to date Government Guidance before travelling to ensure your safety.
