Much of the information is provided through direct links to other websites, this ensures that the information we give and you use is up to date.

Within Battle there are a number of amenities located along the High Street, including convenience stores, a post office, doctors and dentistry practices, public houses, places of worship, eateries and a museum.

Bus Travel

Regular bus services provide Tollgates with excellent links to facilities and services in the local and wider surrounding area, as well as to further public transport services.

The local area is served by the 304 and 305 Stagecoach bus services from Hastings to Hawkhurst; with a service every hour Monday – Saturday. These services also provide a direct connection to the 254 to Tunbridge Wells. You can also catch the 95 bus service to Bexhill.

The nearest bus stop to Tollgates Green for services 304 and 305 are located on the High Street in Battle, a 15-minute walk from your new home. The 95 to Bexhill can be accessed from the stop outside Claverham Community College (5-minute walk). These services are operated by Stagecoach and their associated timetabled can be found here.

Walking

Public Rights of Way (PRoW) – Tollgates Green and Battle benefits from a selection of footways and bridleways that offer quick, safe and accessible routes around the local area. Footpath 82 for example, provides a traffic-free connection to the Highstreet, Battle & Langton Primary School and Battle Abbey School, shown below. Battle Health Walks – East Sussex Health Walks (ESHW) is run by a group of volunteers and offers a series of group health walks. It’s ideal if you are new to walking or recovering from an illness, or even if you just want to improve your fitness! Your local group offers walks around areas such as  Battle, Hailsham, Hastings and Bexhill, usually lasting around an hour. Bicycle Travel

A picturesque cycle south from your home past the Fore Wood Nature Reserve and the Combe Valley Countryside Park connects you with the National Cycle Network 2, a route along the South Coast, providing connections to Bexhill, Hastings, Eastbourne and Dungeness, perfect for an active day out with family and friends.

Local Cycling Routes –  Cycling app Komoot allows local cyclists to share their favourite cycling routes around the Battle area with information on duration ,difficulty and distances. Some of your neighbour’s favourite  routes include Pevensey Castle, Bodiam Steam Railway and Hersmonceux windmill.

The 1066 Cycle Club – The 1066 Cycle Club are a local cycling group who welcome new members of all abilities for group rides across the ‘1066 area’, covering Battle, Bexhill, Hastings, Pevensey and more. For more information and to get in contact, please visit their website

Local Amenities and Facilities

A range of amenities within your local area are easily accessible within both walking and cycling distances, with routes provided by the previously mentioned footpaths, bridleways, byways and local highway network. Many can be found on the Battle Highstreet (15-minute walk).

Planning your Route – Planning your route around your local area could not be easier with sites like Komoot and CycleStreets, providing timed journeys customised to your fitness level, desired pace and traffic volume. It even provides information on calories burnt, an excellent way to incorporate health and exercise into your day!

Healthcare – A number of healthcare facilities are located within reach from your home. These include the Martins Oak Doctors Practice, Corner House Dental Practice (15-minute walk) and other nearby health facilities include the Battle Health Centre, Oldwood Practice and Conquest Hospital.

Activities – The Battle Sports Centre, located adjacent to Tollgates Green, offers a range of facilities and classes for all ages and abilities providing great opportunities for exercising and socialising. These Include:

Leisure – The Battle and surrounding area has plenty of leisure opportunities such as Battle Abbey and Garden, Powdermill Nature Reserve and Lake, Reeves Wood, Wylands Angling Centre and Battle Recreation Ground, including playing fields, children’s adventure play area, basketball court and tennis courts. Bicycle parking is available on site.

Train Travel

Battle Train Station is located approximately 1.5 miles southwest of your home at Tollgates Green; accessible within a 30-minute walk or a 9-minute cycle.

From Battle Train Station, Southern and Southeastern Railways services run on a frequent basis to destinations such as London Charring Cross (1h 20) and Hastings (15 mins). With Hastings only 15 minutes away, you also have excellent access to Eastbourne (30 minutes) and Brighton (1h 30).
