Here at Paul Basham Associates, we are your ‘Travel Plan Coordinators’, which means we are here to help you make informed travel choices and provide advice on your local area and the surrounding travel opportunities.

Much of the information provided on this page is through website links to ensure that the information we give to you is up to date, particularly with bus and rail timetable information! This information is correct as of January 2026.
Your Local Area
Your home is in proximity to numerous facilities located in and around Hailsham. Your area is well served by pedestrian and cycle infrastructure, public transport and local amenities. If you are a Ersham Park resident, Hailsham Centre is approximately 1.5km away. If you are a Cuckoo Fields resident, the centre is approximately 1km away.
We have provided a map below which gives an indication as to where you may find certain facilities.

Walking
Benefits to walking include:
- Increasing your cardiovascular fitness
- Lowering anxiety and stress
- Boosting your energy and improving your mood
- Strengthening your bones, improving your balance and boosting your muscle power
Social Walking
If you’re looking to get your steps in and make new friends at the same time, then The Ramblers may be for you. The Ramblers are a walking charity with hundreds of groups across the country to choose from.
Your closest group is the ‘Beachy Head Ramblers’, who host walks all over East Sussex. Newcomers are welcomed and walks are held on Wednesdays (typically 9-12 miles) and on Fridays (shorter walks). You can try up to three walks before joining, and membership is just £3.75 a month – why not give it a go?

Walking Routes
There is a walk for everyone! East Sussex County Council have provided a webpage that shows all circular, countryside and long distance walks, with interactive maps included.

Cycling
Benefits of Cycling:
- Decreases your stress levels
- Improves posture and coordination
- Strengthens bones and improves joint mobility
- Reduces congestion
- Saves you money
- Increased cardiovascular fitness
When you are cycling it is important that you stay safe and follow the highway code! We have provided a few handy tips below:
- Look and signal to show drivers what you plan to do, make eye contact where possible
- Wear a correctly fitted cycle helmet that is securely fastened
- Where possible, try to maintain a safe distance when you cycle
- Wear high-visibility and reflective clothing and accessories at all times
National Cycle Network
Cycling from Cuckoo Fields & Ersham Park is quick and easy. National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 21 (seen below) runs through Hailsham, located just a 1-minute cycle from Ersham Park, and a 3-minute cycle from Cuckoo Fields. The full NCN Route 21 runs from London to Eastbourne, however the route provides an immediate connection to Polegate and Eastbourne to the south and Horam and Heathfield to the north.

Buses
Why take the Bus?
There are many reasons why you should started considering using the bus, such as:
- The walk to and from the bus is a great way to incorporate some physical activity into your daily routine.
- You have the opportunity to relax whilst on your journey and could even proactively use your time, such as reading a book.
- Season tickets could offer unlimited travel services and can provide cheaper alternatives than running a car.
- Contributing towards cleaner air.
Your local area benefits from a number of local bus routes operated by Cuckmere Buses and Stagecoach. Your closest stops (Coldthorn Lane for Ersham Park and Swan Road for Cuckoo Fields) are a 4-minute walk or 1-minute cycle away. A summary of the routes and timetables is shown below.

Rail
Your closest train station is ‘Polegate’. The station is accessible from Ersham Park via a 20-minute bus journey via the 1B and Regency 54/53 or 51. The station is also accessible from Cuckoo Fields, via a 31-minute service via the H1 and 52/53 services.
Polegate station is well connected, with regular services to Brighton, Eastbourne, Ore and London Victoria.

Sustainable Driving
We understand that sometimes driving is the only option. Therefore, using sustainable driving practices such as car sharing can help save you money and reduce your impact on the environment!
Why not give lift-sharing a go? Wiltshire’s scheme is part of the national Liftshare network which allows you to find drivers or passengers to share your journey. With the move towards hybrid and electric vehicles in the coming years, now is the time to make the switch and go electric!
Electric vehicles are more affordable than you may think, and offer amazing benefits such as:
