Local Area

Within Bilingshurst there are a number of amenities located along the High Street, including convenience stores, a post office, pharmacy, public houses, places of worship, eateries and the Billingshurst Library.

Did you know about the number of walking and cycling paths in Amblehurst Green and beyond? There are a number of Public Rights of Way (PROW) routes which connect with Billingshurst High Street or alternatively there is a continuous pedestrian footway on the northern side the A272 which can be used to access to High Street. Walks into the High Street are likely to take around 10 minutes.

Guided wellbeing walks

Horsham District Council promotes Guided Wellbeing Walks led by volunteers, there is no need to book for these walks you can just turn up! The walks take place all over the Horsham District area every week with some walks even being dog friendly. Horsham Museum & Art Gallery Heritage Trails

These trails allow you to see Horsham District’s history first hand with self-guided heritage trails. Each trail is dedicated to a different area of the district and has sites of special interest and stories from all areas of the past.

The local trail in Billinghurst is the Growing up in Billinghurst Family Trail. This trail allows you to see what it was like growing up in the village from Victorian times to today. Even if you’re not local it is an enriching walk where you can learn about children’s lives over the past 150 years. Ramblers

If you enjoy walking why not join a Ramblers group? Ramblers is a walking charity dedicated to removing barriers so that everyone can enjoy Britain’s green spaces and is made up of local groups and regional areas across Great Britain. There are many groups around Billingshurst such as the Crawley & North Sussex Group and the Sussex Young Walkers Group.

Local Cycle Network

Horsham District Council have collated 44 cycling routes that start in the Horsham District, of differing lengths and difficulties. One of these is a route of Broadbridge Heath. As well as this, there are a number of cycle routes near your home as shown in the maps above.

To help you get the most out of your local cycle network, as part of the Travel Plan the developers of Amblehurst Green are offering residents a £150 Cycle Voucher to spend at your local Halfords Store which can be used towards a bike purchase or the purchase of bike equipment.

Alternatively, you can use your Travel Plan voucher against two 2-hour cycle training sessions which can be 1:1 or a family session (2 adults and 1 child or 1 adult and 2 children). Travel by Bus

Why take the bus?

  • The walk to and from the bus is a great way to incorporate some physical activity into your daily routine
  • Relax and read a book whilst you travel to your destination
  • Season tickets offer unlimited travel on services and can prove cheaper than running a car

The closest bus stops to the site can be found along the High Street at ‘High Street North’, ‘Village Hall’ and Jengers Mead’. From these stops the following Compass Travel services are availble:

  • 100 which connects with Burgess Hill, Henfield, Pulborough and Horsham hourly Monday-Saturday
  • 64 which connects with Loxwood, Wsborough Green and Horsham on Mondays and Thursdays with one service
  • 69 which connects with Alfrod, Wisbourgh and Worthing with one return service on Tuesdays and Fridays

Important Bus Route Changes!

Compass Travel are changing some of the services in West Sussex in 2023, this includes slight timetable changes to the 100 service from 24th July.

Travel by Rail

Billingshurst Train Station is approximately 1.8km from your new home, accessible via a 23-minute walk or 7-minute cycle.

Why take the train?

  • Can include a walk or cycle to the station or incorporate a link trip with the bus.
  • Taking the train means you can work on the go or relax, without the stress of driving and parking.
  • It’s good for the planet, trainline will show you how much C02 you saved based on your journeys!

Billingshurst Train Station is equipped with 18 cycle storage spaces, 24-hout CCTV, taxi rank, customer help points, toilets and a telephone.
