Your local area

Your new home in Berewood is well located in relation to a number of local facilities, particularly along Victoria Road. Along Victoria Road there are takeaways, cafes, banks, retail outlets, a post office, Waterlooville Library and a public house. The Asda Waterlooville Superstore is also accessible via the A3 as well as the Waterlooville Area Community Association and a pharmacy. Your local area provide a number of Public Rights of Way, footways and on-site parks for a variety of walking opportunities.

This includes:

  • A segregated 4m footway/cycleway between the main access and internal roundabout with 3m shared facilities continuing towards the Local Centre and to the commercial area to the north and houses to the south.
  • Connections to the southern end of the Town Centre by shared footway/cycleway links that surround and pass through the Forest End residential area to Maurepas Way and the A3 via existing crossing facilities.
  • A new Toucan crossing supplementing the existing Puffin crossing on the A3 enhancing connections from the residential areas to the south of Forest End
  • Signal controlled crossing facilities at the Milk Lane junction and a new Toucan crossing facilities to the north of Purbrook Village.
  • Signal controlled crossing facilities at the proposed southern access.

Ramblers Wellbeing Walks Havant

Wellbeing walks Havant are coordinated by Havant Borough Council and delivered by trained volunteers. Walks include Havant, Emsworth and Hayling Island and a range of walks to suit all fitness levels are offered. Multiple walks are organised a week so you can pick whatever walk suits you best!

Hampshire 40+ Walking Group 

The Hampshire 40+ Walking Group is another Ramblers group that offers organised walks all over Hampshire. Walks are usually between 8-12 miles and despite the name ‘40+’, they welcome walkers of all ages. The first three walks are free and membership is £3.58 per month after this.

Recommended places to walk:

  • The Queen’s Inclosure (100.35 acres) – a large wood with a diversity of tress and wildlife with a circular walking route.
  • Park Wood (8.38 acres) – a small oasis in a large urban area, well worth a visit to see its ancient trees as well as explore the pathways.
  • Berewood Community Nature Reserve is also located on the western perimeter of the site near Houghton Avenue.

Local Cycle Network

The National Cycle Network route 222 (Queen Elizabeth Country Park to Portsmouth) runs in the vicinity of your new home through Waterlooville, Purbrook, Crookhorn and finishes in Portsmouth. The route consists of a mixture of traffic free and on-road cycling and also connects with Route 22 and Route 2 which provides a long distance route across the south coast. The map below shows part of the route, closest to your home.

The A3 London Road which connects with Cosham to the south also supports cycling with on road cycle lanes and off-road cycle tracks.

With so many great cycling routes on your doorstep why not put on your cycle helmet and get active! 

Waterlooville CCC is a community cycle club, with the aim of making cycling enjoyable for all. Cycle events occur weekly, and all routes are circular, without steep inclines. This is an excellent way to meet some new people and to get out in nature!

Travel by Bus

The Berewood area is well served by a number of bus routes operated by First Buses and Stagecoach. A summary of the routes and timetables is outlined below along with relevant links to the bus companies web pages.

Why take the Bus?

There are many reasons why you should started considering using the bus, such as:

  • The walk to and from the bus is a great way to incorporate some physical activity into your daily routine
  • You have the opportunity to relax whilst on your journey and can even proactively use your time, such as reading a book
  • Season tickets could offer unlimited travel services and can provide cheaper alternatives than running a car.
  • Contributing towards cleaner air.

Bus fare initiative

Good news! The Government £3 Single Fare Cap is continuing until at least the 31st December 2025. This means that single journeys will cost no more than £3! But make sure to check before you travel to see if your route is eligible.

Travel by Rail

To travel by rail from your home in Berewood, Cosham and Bedhampton Railway Stations are the closest via a 20-minute cycle journey, both located to the south.

Bedhampton Railway Station is operated by South Western Railway and provides regular hourly services to Portsmouth Harbour, London Waterloo.

To travel to Bedhampton Railway Station there is the opportunity to use the Stagecoach 37 or 39 services or the journey would constitute a 20-minute cycle via Hulbert Road.

Cosham Railway Station is also operated by South Western Railway and provides some further services to those from Bedhampton such as Cardiff Central, London Waterloo and Portsmouth & Southsea, all of which come hourly. Further services go to Portsmouth Harbour and Brighton twice hourly and a service to Southampton Central goes three times an hour.

To travel to Cosham Railway Station would also consist of a 20-minute cycle via London Road or a 25 minute bus journey via the 7 or 8 First Bus services.

Car Travel Options

Still need to drive your own car? There are still ways to develop more sustainable habits, why not try some of the below techniques:

  • Remove unnecessary weight from your car such as roof racks or boxes
  • Avoid breaking and accelerating hard by driving smoothly
  • Limit the use of your air conditioning
  • Check your tyres are fully inflated
  • Stick to the speed limit – speeding often leads to higher fuel consumption
