Be visible – Making sure you stay safe on the road with bike reflectors, lights and wearing reflective clothing.

Ride with friends – Riding with your colleagues can make your journey more enjoyable and also make you feel safer.

Service your bike – You can get your bike serviced or do it yourself. Make sure it is checked out, cleaned and serviced to ensure it is in good condition before hitting the road.

Plan ahead – Planning your journey ahead will allow you to prepare for the route and any potential hazards.

To ensure a clear route, make sure to plan before:

Car Travel Options

Liftshare – By sharing your journey to work you will reduce the overall emissions, reduce the number of cars on the road and save money on petrol!

To offer or find a lift, visit www.liftshare.com/uk the national car sharing database.

Alternatively, arrange to share a lift with colleagues at the Care Home and if there is enough interest, don’t hesitate to reach out to Jon, who can assist in organising an informal car share scheme!

Top Tips for Driving Green and Saving Fuel

1. Be a Smooth Operator
Fast accelerating and braking burns more fuel, drive smoothly with light feet to help fuel efficiency.

3. Stop Idling
Don’t sit with your engine running, turn it off when you are sat waiting in your car, or shift to neutral at traffic lights. Did you know that 20 seconds of idling emits more CO2 than turning your car off and back on again when you are ready to drive.

2. Roll down to Cool down
Air conditioning reduces fuel efficiency by up to 10%, so roll your windows down instead.

4. Slow Down
Driving more than 55mph reduces your fuel efficiency by almost 15%!

5. Lighten Up
For every 50kg of weight, your fuel consumption is increased by around 2%. Removing unnecessary weight from your car will reduce how much fuel you are using for the same trips.

Electric Vehicle Travel

Over recent years there has been a shift towards hybrid and electric vehicles. Charging points will be provided at Elm Lodge for all staff and visitors to use! There are plenty of further charging points in the local area, including The Rose Estate Hook (9 minutes), Blackbushe Airport (9 minutes), and Heckfield Place (11 minutes).
