Join the Ramblers
The South Wiltshire Ramblers are an active friendly walking group based in Salisbury with short walks on Wednesdays and Thursdays and all day walks on Sundays. There’s something for everyone!

Alternatively, you could join the Salisbury Ramblers walking club which is supported by Salisbury City Council. The walks are free and take place every week in differing locations across the city.

Salisbury and Wilton Walking Routes
There are a range of walking routes in and around Salisbury and Wilton, with walks suitable for most available! There are a range of walks into the city, exploring around the city and longer routes to the countryside.

Public Rights of Way
There are a number of Public Right of Way (PRoW) routes which are located close to your home.
Visit the Connecting Wiltshire website at www.connectingwiltshire.co.uk to find your nearest PRoW route! Some of these routes are also shown on the walking and cycling map.

If walking is not for you, then the Wiltshire Cycleway provides endless opportunities for you to cycle. The Cycleway is a 160 mile circular route which can be broken into 16 manageable sections and can be shortened by using cross county routes along the Kennet and Avon Canal, through the Vale of Pewsey or down the Wylye Valley.
National Cycle Network Routes 24 and 45 can be joined in Salisbury town centre, with Route 24 providing a route northwest and southeast from your home, and Route 45 providing a route to the north.
Salisbury town centre is an approximate 8-minute cycle from your home, providing you with great amenities to get out cycling.

When you are cycling it is important that you stay safe and follow the highway code! We have provided a few handy tips below:
- Look and signal to show drivers what you plan to do, make eye contact where possible.
- Wear a correctly fitted cycle helmet that is securely fastened
- Where possible, try to maintain a safe distance when you cycle
- Wear high-visibility and reflective clothing and accessories at all times
Electric Bikes
Electric bikes are a great alternative for the car. With an electric motor and battery attached, travelling via electric bikes requires less effort, allowing you to travel longer distances or on hilly rides easier. The electric bikes are cheaper than running a car, with only the need to charge the batteries from time to time opposed to fuel-related costs, and they also help to reduce car-related air pollution and congestion.

Social Cycling
If you don’t fancy cycling on your own, or you’re looking to meet new people, take a look at the Cycling Opportunities Group for Salisbury (COGS). With 150 members, cycle meets every Thursday and family friendly events, this is a brilliant way to stay healthy and stay social! Annual membership is £5 and includes benefits such as a preferential discount at Hayball Cycles and Stonehenge Cycles.

Bikeability Free Training
Want to learn to ride a bike, but not sure where to start? Wiltshire Council have a limited number of free places available for adult cycle training, with three different levels of ability. Tuition for the sessions is up to 2 hours with a qualified Bikeability instructor, at a time and location that suit you.

Travel By Bus
Harnham is well served by a number of bus routes operated by Salisbury Reds. Your closest stop ‘Tylers Close’ is less than a 5-minute walk from your home, located on Netherhampton Road. A summary of the routes (including a map of the R5 service) and timetables is outlined below, along with relevant links to the page.
Red 5 (R5) – West Harnham to Salisbury City Centre
Every half hour between 06:34 and 23:14 – Monday to Friday, between 06:57 and 23:13 on Saturdays and hourly between 08:38 and 19:47 on Sundays. A map of the route has been provided below:
650 – Harnham – Laverstock Schools
Available on weekdays at 15:36 from Tylers Close bus stop. No buses on Weekends or Bank Holidays.
B2 – Burgate School – Victoria Park
Available on weekdays at 07:42 from Tylers Close bus stop. No buses on Weekends or Bank Holidays.
£3 Single Fare Cap
Good news! The Government £3 Single Fare Cap is continuing until at least the 31st December 2025. This means that single journeys will cost no more than £3!

Travel By Rail
Salisbury Railway Station is located approximately 2.5km east of your home, which is an approximate 28-minute walk or 8-minute cycle, or the Salisbury Reds R5 service provides a bus connection to Salisbury Railway Station.
